After enjoying a tasty breakfast, your Egyptologist tour guide will take you on an exciting trip to the Egyptian Museum, where you'll explore the extensive collection of Egyptian antiquities, including the golden mask and coffins of King Tutankhamen. You'll spend approximately 2 hours in the museum before heading to the Citadel of Saladin, which includes the beautiful Mohamed Ali Alabaster Mosque. The fortress was built in the 12th century by the Mamluk rulers to protect Egypt from the Crusaders, and the mosque was built by the Ottoman King Mohammed Ali in 1830.
After a nice lunch, your tour will continue to Coptic Cairo, where you'll visit the ancient Roman fortress of Babylon, on which the Hanging Church, an unusual church suspended on towers, was built in the 1st century. You'll also walk through narrow alleys that will make you feel like you're walking in the old streets of Jerusalem to reach the Church of St. Sergius, where the Holy Family stayed for nearly three months when they fled to Egypt. You'll end your Coptic Cairo tour by visiting the old Jewish area of Cairo and seeing the Ben Ezra Synagogue, which was once a Christian church before being sold to a Jewish man.
Next, you'll explore Islamic Cairo by walking through El Moez Ledin Ellah Street, the oldest street in Fatimid Cairo, which is considered an open-air museum of Islamic art and architecture. You'll see the Al Azhar Mosque and take a break at El Fishawy, the oldest cafe in Khan El Khalili, to enjoy Turkish coffee or a special mango juice.
After your tour, you'll be taken back to your hotel in Cairo to spend the night. Breakfast and lunch are included in your tour.
